The department offers a programme leading to the Ph.D. in electrical engineering. The programme aims to develop a dynamic researcher enabling them to adapt to the ever changing needs in the field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Research activity spans a broad spectrum of Electrical and Electronics Engineering subjects, which include (but are not limited to):
As the world transitions towards sustainable electric mobility, there is a growing demand for professionals skilled in battery technology, efficient motors, charging systems, and vehicle integration. The M. Tech in Electric Vehicle Technology is a 72-credit, two-year programme designed to equip students with advanced knowledge in key areas, including battery systems, battery management, motors and drives, charging infrastructure, software-defined vehicles, and digital twinning. This multidisciplinary curriculum bridges electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and computer science, emphasizing both industry-driven training and cutting-edge research. Modules of emerging technologies like digital twinning and software-defined vehicles ensure graduates are prepared for future advancements in the EV sector.
Through collaborations with industry partners, students gain hands-on experience in solving real-world challenges. With a focus on sustainable mobility and green energy, the programme empowers graduates to excel in the EV ecosystem, contributing to technological innovations and shaping the future of transportation.
As one of the core engineering disciplines, Electrical and Electronics Engineering encompasses a wide range of domains that address contemporary engineering needs. The discipline focuses on the generation, transmission, distribution, and application of electricity, along with embedded systems, automation and control and emerging areas such as VLSI, Digital Signal Processing, Renewable Energy Systems, E-Mobility and Electric Vehicle Technology. Owing to its multidisciplinary nature, Electrical and Electronics Engineering offers diverse career opportunities, ranging from the design and manufacturing of electronic equipment to automation, control, power systems, and advanced energy technologies. To enhance students’ learning experience, the department conducts sessions and seminars on problem-solving, creative thinking, open-ended experimentation, and live projects. Students are exposed to industry-based live projects and internships from the third semester through the final semester. They are also encouraged to publish research papers and present their work at conferences, thereby strengthening their technical, research, and professional competencies. Academic Excellence The department builds strong foundations in electrical systems, electronics, power engineering, control, automation, and emerging technologies through structured academic training.
