The PhD programme of the department is running for the past two years. Seven students have registered for the doctoral course. There are empanelled guides from the CHRIST (Deemed to be University) and Rajagiri College for social sciences. The PhD course has a rigorous course plan followed by the preparation of a research dissertation.

This is a centralized course under the Centre for Research, CHRIST (Deemed to be University).

MSW in clinical and community Practice is a postgraduate program that equips students with the necessary skills, knowledge, and capabilities to become professional social work practitioners in both clinical and community settings. This program facilitates students in comprehending essential concepts, tackling pertinent issues, and developing the professional skills that will help them take up leadership positions in the development, health, and welfare sectors. Through our supportive study environment, students will be able to develop crucial skills for independent and collaborative learning. This program offers students the opportunity to find placements in different sectors such as development, health, social service and welfare sectors as well as administrative or research positions in governmental, non-governmental organisations, national and international organisations and universities. Entrepreneurial qualities of students in the social, health, research and development sector will be developed and encouraged to make their work innovative and self-directed.

The Master of Social Work in Human Resource Development and Management (MSW HRDM) is a distinct program offered by the Department of Sociology and Social Work at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Central Campus, Bangalore. It is a comprehensive two-year program meticulously designed to equip students for enriching careers in the ever-evolving and dynamic field of Human Resources. This program transcends industry boundaries, extending its reach and relevance to many sectors, including businesses, healthcare institutions, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and other organizations. MSW HRDM program is structured to provide students with the comprehensive knowledge, practical skills, and theoretical insights necessary to excel in this transformative field. The program delves deeply into the core tenets of Social work and Human Resource Management. With HRDM, the course encompasses talent acquisition, performance management, labor relations, compensation structures, and strategic human resource development. It also explores contemporary HR practices such as employee empowerment, engagement strategies, support and assistantship programs, corporate social responsibility, work-life balance initiatives, and the legal intricacies related to family and children within the workplace. The program introduces students to various skill development workshops, thereby nurturing their practical and technical competencies. These workshops cover a range
of areas, including essential technical skills in software applications like Excel, SAP, and SPSS, as well as other analytical tools, enabling students to leverage data-driven insights for informed decision-making. The program features completing a mini survey and a significant research dissertation.

These research projects are conducted in an industrial context, mirroring the needs of the industry and with the validation of experts in the HR field. The choice of research problems and methodologies is designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, equipping students with analytical and problem-solving capabilities crucial for success in the HR sector.Furthermore, the MSW HRDM program provides students with a unique and immersive learning experience through a series of internships. These internships, spanning six months across four semesters, allow students to gain on-ground expertise in Social Work and HR practices across diverse industries and organizations. This practical exposure empowers students to observe, learn, and engage with the intricacies of Social work and HR management in real-world settings. The department is involved in a strong partnership with Christ University's Center for Social Action (CSA), creating a seamless collaboration that plays a pivotal role in sensitizing students to the pressing social concerns within both the university campus and the broader community that encompasses it. The department and CSA work harmoniously to ensure that students are not only academically prepared but are also deeply engaged with the real-world social challenges in their immediate surroundings. The MSW HRDM program is a transformative Academic journey that prepares students to thrive in the challenging and dynamic realm of Social Work with Human Resources. Its holistic approach, blending classroom instruction with practical experience, empowers graduates to understand Social Work and HR concepts and effectively apply them to drive organizational success.

 

The Master of Science in Sustainable Development (MSc Sustainable Development) is a comprehensive and a interdisciplinary program designed to address critical developmental gaps in India and South Asia. This two to four-year course is dedicated to creating the necessary capacity and resources to meet emerging needs for sustainable development. The program emphasizes the central importance of sustainability in various organizational agendas, spanning from corporations and non-governmental organizations to UN agencies, bilateral organizations, political parties, local governments, and international funding agencies. Students opting for this program will acquire first-hand knowledge and skills to tackle pressing issues such as global warming, limited energy resources, population growth, and the rise of newer economies. The curriculum involves interaction with international experts, employing pedagogies like problem-based and project-based learning, case studies, and field visits. The program structure consists of 13 core courses (four credits each) and seven open electives (four credits each), totaling 80 credits for degree completion. 

Core courses are distributed across trimesters, with three in the first trimester, two each in the second to fifth trimesters, and a dissertation in the final trimester. Open electives are offered from the second to the fifth trimester, with one each in trimesters two to five and two in the final trimester. Candidates can choose electives from any of the five Choice-Based Credit programs offered by the university, but they are restricted to taking a maximum of two electives from one program, including their parent program. The duration of the program ranges from a minimum of two years to a maximum of four years. An additional year extension is possible with an extra fee. Successful completion of the program requires passing a minimum of 20 courses, accumulating 80 credits, including mandatory core courses. Overall, the MSc Sustainable Development program equips students to actively contribute to sustainable development efforts in the region and globally, preparing them for diverse roles across sectors committed to addressing the challenges of our rapidly changing world.
