The Resource Person was ?Dr Thiagu Ranganathan, Associate Professor, Centre of Development Studies, Trivandrum .The Event Coordinator was ?Dr Sumeetha M, Assistant Professor of Economics, Christ (Deemed to be University) .350+ students from ECOH and other faculties attended the webinar session Dr. Sumeetha M welcomed the attendees, introduced and invited the honourable guest speaker, Dr. Thiagu Ranganathan to address everyone and begin with his enlightening lecture.
Dr. Ranganthan opened his lecture with an intriguing example/poll to kindle everyone’s interest towards the subject of Game Theory. As the lecture progressed he concisely shed light on the basic concepts of game theory such as payoffs, dominated strategy and Nash-equilibrium to help students understand the science with relative ease. Dr Ranganathan used matrices to practically describe problems and payoffs under Prisoner’s Dilemma and provided intriguing examples from movies such as ‘Dark Knight’ to bring in real life perspectives.
After the lecture, the floor was open was a Q n A session wherein enthusiastic response ensued as curious students poured out questions during the QnA session which were answered with interesting analogies by Dr. Ranganathan so that they could understand complex concepts in a lucid fashion.
At the end, the students were left with all the required tools to venture on a much-rewarding journey to learn Game Theory, a core concept of a revolutionary sub-science under Microeconomics that has been redefining methods of formulating strategies and optimal decision-making for a long time.
